NEWINGTON RAILWAY & ARMORY - THURSDAY 28 OCTOBER 2010
Something unusual and another “first” for Potter Travel. Today we head to Sydney to visit the Newington Armory. A special place - formerly the Royal Australian Naval Armament Depot (RANAD), it features over 100 heritage buildings of various ages and types, set amidst a 52 hectare riverside landscape of undulating hills and woodlands. Situated between the southern bank of the Parramatta River and the suburb of Newington - the former Olympic Village, the site is a restricted area with limited public access. The heritage buildings provide the Armory with a unique character, which is described through an award-winning heritage interpretation program, that can be viewed at the original 1897 gate house. Newington Armory reflects over 100 years of naval occupation and use, and in an even earlier life as part of the 1807 colonial land grant to the pioneering Blaxland Family. The Newington Amory Heritage Railway is a hidden gem for railway enthusiasts. This is a 610mm, two foot gauge network used to transport munitions around the former Newington Arms Depot. Today we have a real treat with a guided tour of both the Armory and a ride on the train! Lunch is included.
Member Cost: $120.00 per person. Non-Member Cost: $135.00 pp.

CHERRY TIME - FRIDAY 19 NOVEMBER 2010 ** FULL WAITLIST ONLY
CHERRY TIME - MONDAY 22 NOVEMBER 2010 ** SEATS STILL AVAILABLE
Sweet cherries were named after the town where they were first grown, Cerasus, in Asia Minor (now modern day Turkey). The first recorded plantings of cherries in the Young District was in 1847 by Mr Edward Taylor in his home orchard at Burrangong. The “Rons Seedling” Cherry, Young’s Premier variety, was developed locally. Look out for Ron’s Cherries today as we feast our way around the district. First stop is Which Craft Coffee Shop for our Devonshire Morning Tea. Then we return to visit our original orchard, Cherry Grove where we spend time picking our own cherries, which we purchase at very reasonable prices. Lunch is at Wilders Bakery, who in 2009 celebrated their 60th anniversary! Afterwards visit Poppa’s Fudge Factory where you can purchase a huge variety of freshly made fudge, jams, relishes and loads of other local produce and see the jam being made in the kitchen. Afternoon tea is included. We “roll” back to Canberra after a great day. Our ever popular Cherry tour books out quickly, so don’t delay!
Member Cost: $84.00 per person. Non- Member Cost: $99.00 per person
